It all began with Mercedes-Benz, starting with the S Class and then the E Class, which were among the first vehicles to be equipped with the new R744 refrigerant-based air conditioning technology. Since then, Audi, the wider VW Group, and a growing number of other manufacturers have begun adopting this system across their own model ranges.

Vehicles running R744 (CO2) refrigerant have been entering the market steadily over recent years, and we are increasingly encountering them here at Bee Cool ACS. A number of AC specialists remain hesitant when it comes to working on these systems – and understandably so – as they operate at pressures of approximately 70 Bar, which can be daunting for anyone without the relevant training and experience.

Servicing R744 isn’t something any garage can do. The higher operating pressures demand dedicated tooling, and the systems themselves require technicians who’ve completed specific R744 training.
